I am modeling a steam punk inspired staff which I intend to release as a freebee during my 12 days of Christmas give away on my site. I have come up with two basic texture schemes but I am unsure which one I want to use on the finished product. One is basically new copper and the other is more of a weathered patina. Any input you guys may have would be greatly appreciated.

Only one choice?!  

I rarely use staffs with my characters; but I can foresee a use for both types of finishes. Patina, for a more "realistic" scene; new copper (with excessive raytraced reflections   ) for the times I'm in my "Hyper-realistic, Ultra-glossy, Action Girl" mode.

The "copper" to old eyes 'looks' too much   like wood....

Thank you everyone for your help and input on this. More than likely I will be throwing them both in (along with a steel texture that has been popular with a few people) to one gift pack.
