Post subject: New Version of Blender
Hi all
There is a new release of free, open source modelling/rendering application Blender.
New in this release, beyond all other, there finally are sculpting tools and brushes as in ZBrush.
I did never work with Blender by now seriously, cos I just couldn't get used to it. I'll give this version 2.43 another chance, maybe... http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-243/

Thanks much for the info.
I too have been intending to work more in Blender; with the new features, there is even more reason to.

I've allways had Blender Instaled in my PC now from allmost for 4 years allways downloading the new versions, allways opening it and clising it inmediatly but from allmost 7 month I decided to try it seriously and now I can say Blender is an amazing tool the first impression is it's complicated but that is wrong, Blender is not complicated, it's simply diferent, the modeling tools are great and easy to use, the renderer is great, the UV mapping is amazing and now the sculpting tools are fantastic and works perfect for doing head and full body morphs.
Really Blender is a powerfull aplication for a what I see and I've read for professional use, for me, a medium Poser DS user is an amazing tool where now I can model my props an dynamic clothes, I can UV easylly, do my morphs, and even render using two great renderers and advanced materials with final composition and more.
It's Blender fault I've been a little away from this nice place, now I'm a Blender fan .
But I allways come back here even I don't post or comment, I allways like to see what's going on

Hi back rayera
I still didn't start working with it
Do you know a good beginners tutorial.
Kind of "creating a head morph for Poser, step by step" ?
Just to know how to get started...

Post subject: Re: New Version of Blender
Pitklad: I used Wings3D before Blender even Wings is a great aplication the true is Blender is way much more powerful and featured, by now I don't know all the tools and adventages of this program and maybe never will, but I think the ones I need for my Poser DS needs is full covered there are over the web a lot of tutorials (free of course) mainly in Blender comunity video tutorials are used and following this and asking in forums and self experimentation is how I lerned most of what I needed, about the Zbrush type tools, I have Zbrush 2 and I think it is a wonderful aplication unique by now that we have the sculpting funtions in blender, the true is that for morphing I didn't find diferences in working with one or the other actually Blender is less complex and direct for this purpose and most important BLENDER IS FREE open source and will allways be
About groups it have the same problems than Zbrush when smoothing or inflating over two groups seam, I think it's normal and it can be solved in Zbrush and Blender in the same way: welding the seams, morphing and unwelding the seams again and restoring groups, now I'm working in the head morph tutorial requested by ahjah little by little after work, I think I will be able to post it by the week end, and then will do one about full body morphs, and is somebody is interested I can do some about modeling some props and dynamic clothes, only dynamics, by now I can't get good results in conforming, I followed a lot of tutorials, searched a lot of information but it resist to me I wish I'd have more time

About make human, it used to be a blender plug in, now it's a stand alone aplication that let you build, using morphs, an starting mesh for a human figure, I'm not quite shure but I've been told that in future releases it will export full riged figures ready to pose in blender, I think in the final release and in conjuntion with Blender it will be the true free poser like system, or something like that

Just for curiosity see what Blender is able to do:
This is a short film made using all open source software, mainly Blender, and itself is an open source movie:
Elephants Dream

And a long film that is being done in my country all with open source software:
Plumiferos

And of course the Blender home site where I highly recomend you to see the galery and the Feature list and the well documented with pictures and examples release logs, in the 2.43 log is the Sculpt modeling tool note

I have opened Blender once...
Since than I've tried only Wing3D as a modeler
However this time I'll give more attention to it! The zbrush alike tools and the uv tools are those I'm interested more than anything else!

welding the seams, morphing and unwelding the seams again and restoring groups

This can be done inside Zbrush?

Thanks for the info and the links!

oh! I know a little girl needing some clothes

Poor P4 Girl

Post subject: Re: New Version of Blender
People: from the last tuesday something unusual happened to this city, this place is surronded by rivers and water, and we are used to the vehavior of this, but we were not so prepared for 3 days of non stoping and really intense rain with hail as big allmost as a bolleyball ball (yes I'm not kiding) I feeled like "The day after tomorrow" movie was going to become true, resulting in streets that became rivers, no electricity no phone, water inside houses and fear, a lot of fear, but thanks to Lord in my particular case I didn't suffer big lost and will reduce in a big cleaning of our house, but we have friends and relatives to help that had 1,5 m of water inside the house, on suterday I had back electric energy an phone, as soon as posible I'll finish the tutorial, I really wished to finish it by the weekend.
Now I wonder: what's going on with the weather? this is one of the oldest city of my country with a well documented story, and there is no registry of something like this, las year we didn't had autumn and spring and allmost nothing of winter, we allways had hot summers but not this hot or this long or extreme rainy or like the last year, so dry; it sound like a pre-build phrase, heard everywhere but "what are we doing to our Earth" it's incredible all the damage done in just 3 days

Now it seems all over, weather is cloudy but no rain pronostic, in most places of the city water has gone, so I just want to do some things I like, just a little time to answer to some friends :

Pitklad: this CAN NOT be done in Zbrush, is a little tedious proces at the begining but when you get on it it's not that hard to remember, after the head morph tutorial, I'll do the full body morph tutorial with this information.

About the little girl: I had done some basic dynamics for other figures when I needed an specific clothe style, but by now I can't make them conform satisfactorily

Good to hear, you're o.k. so far rayera
The weather is weird, in fact. We had by far the warmest winter ever. Tempratures hardly below zero, if at all, and only a little snow. And some days ago, we had thunderstorms like we are used to it only in summer
Not boring, at least

Rayera, My deep thought to you and your family . I'm very happy that nothing bad is happened to you . I don't know what to think about weather, I saw the strangest things even years ago, for example I remember snow on 21 April at the beginning of the '90 here, this winter was warm but three years ago was very very cold and did a lot of damages... take care ! !

Rayera, I hope your life gets back to normal as soon as possible.

If it's any consolation, this wild-weather syndrome is spreading everywhere - last week the top of our country got hit with a once-in-one-hundred-fifty-years downpour and we ended up with something like four months worth of rain in three days. Flooded a lot of homes, and made the life for members of the BBC's 'Castaways' reality show that bit more miserable...

Dylan said it best - the times, they are a'changing.
