My bro showed me earlier this piece of software, it works on OBJs and you can make ivy grow on it ! then you can export the ivy as obj and go back poser or whatever software, I've not used it yet but it is the main page with the software for all the platforms (WIN, MAC, LINUX)

http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~luft/ivy_generator/

Maybe we already mentioned it ?

Once upon a time there was this software and for the love of me we all couldn't get it to work.

Kenny closes the book. A really bad story.

I tried it as well but seem to have gotton the same as with Ace and leahman. Have you tried it in Poser Davide? Maybe you can help.

Post subject: Re: Ivy Generator
Hi Kenny, I think to try it in the weekend with my bro, he showed it to me, he exported a cube as an obj with Cinema4d, selected ....

Wait... I reminded an important note, my bro said me that all the polygons of the object have to be triangular

In cinema4d he "made" a cube then triangularized the faces (the normal cube's face is a polygon with 4 point that can be divided in 2 polygons of three points)
then exported it and the ivy grew.

If I'm not wrong this process of "triangularization" (right ? ) is an option in the UVmapper and there should be one also in Blender, so the object need a further passage before the IVY.

I'll let this to you for experiments till the weekend, then I think to make some tests myself because I like this thing... (I also thought to use it for a a picture )

P.S.

probably no one of us read the instructions

Hi Ace! Did you try it in Cinema4d? I tried it in Poser and got a really bad mess. The program looks good inside its own window software but when exported it is really a mess to deal with.

Post subject: Re: Ivy Generator
Ok I think I got it. Once you get your ivy then export out as a 3ds file and import into Poser as a wavefront obj. Then once you import uncheck everything in the box. Once it is in Poser you will have to make some changes. When you unzipped the files you will notice you have a texture file. Theses Trans maps have to be modified. The leaves for example will have to be imported into Elements or Photoshop. Once you have it there you are going to have to make the Trans maps rotate from right to left using the 180 degree. Once that is done you will have to reverse the texture colors. For instance you have a white leaf. You have to change the leaf to black and the background to white. There are two of them for the leaves. Once you have made the changes you can import them back to replace the old files as jpg. files. With the ivy model in Poser go to the materials and click on the leaf square. Bring up the leaf texture and link it with the box. Then get you trans map and do the same. Set the trans. and edge to 1.0 and WHOO WHOO! you got an ivy with leaves.

Also you will have to get the texture package at the bottom of the web site.
http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~lu...or_Textures.zip

Remember though. You have to rotate the Trans and bump maps 180 degrees to do this as well as working with your trans maps in a paint shop software.

This has everything you need. Have fun.

I have tried it with both. The thing is when I hit the grow button I get "Living branches: 0of0" and nothing else.

Ok you got me on that one Ace. I never seen that one at all. When you put your cursor on the object, you want with Ivy to grow do you get a green mark where you clicked? That is the starting point of the Ivy. I need some information about your PC. What OS system do you have? Here is the settings I have come up with on my Desk Top. See if they will work with you. If not I would think something is wrong with your end of the PC and needs to be set. I know you have covered all but I am trying to trouble shoot here to see if I can nail something over looked.

I got it to work. I did not realize that you had to click on the object. (Remember, I couldn't get the instruction video to work.)
