I'm New, Please Whip Me Gently - Introduction

Post subject: Introduction
This is really an odd forum setup. Not at all what I am used to.
I'm manleystanley everywhere. I work mostly with Carrara 5 pro, and am a beta tester for Spiral graphics; Genetica seamless texture gererator. I use Poser 5, but mostly to prep figures for use in Carrara. I also use Terragen; TG2 out next month, finally. Hex2, World machine, Make Human, UVmapper, and a dozen or so other small freeware apps.
I like to consider myself a texture artist, and have been work for the past few months on skin textures, and shaders. I have made quite a few morph targets; but not for posette. And do quite a bit of my own modeling. I've been working with Make Human; an app for makeing figure models. And am working on boneing/rigging the figures; easy enough, but I have to learn how to do wieght painting; mapping????.
And me, well I'm just a craby old bachlor.

Hi manleystanley , Let me give you our best welcome to Posetteforever !! There are a little but persistent group of people who like to work with the P4 figures and comforming ones, Personally I think that Posettes are easy to use, very beautiful and have the scale of the body parts that are so "neutral" that one can tranform the figure as he or she wants (the same for the Dork, of course). Feel free to walk around and sniff the place, it's not a big palace but we like it a lot !

Welcome !

It goes without saying. Where are they? Actually I have no "feelings" as such.

For me the most usable figure is the most morphable. So the best whay to improve the usabilety of a figure is to make it more morphable. And why I'm here.

I work agra busness, and the season is over. Time is the one thing I have plenty of right now. So I have been working through various tutorials; mostly for P5 and Carrara.
Morph targets are easy to make in Hex2, and easy to apply in Poser 5 or Carrara 5.
Now I'm usually working on multiple projects; I have 6 going right now, but I'm more of a technision then an artist, I spend most of my time learning how to do things, and am not much about posting to galleries.
What work I have done with posette is animation, she's a bit low poly and animates easyer then Judy or Vicky, and skin textures; one of my favorite things to do. If people don't mind getting their hands dirty, I can post textures and morph targets.

A bachelor is usually a man that has been driven completely insane, and had his heart obliterated by a woman and has desided to sware off them.

After looking it dosen't look like there is much to do for Posette, not sure what morph she may need. Any ideas? Or Dork for that matter.

Post subject: Re: Introduction
Being an old man I wonder what is up with people today. As soon as something new comes out they have to run out and get it, eventhough there is nothing wrong with what they have. The same with new of figures, a new version comes out, everyone floks to it, then you get a bunch of clone renders because there isn't much out for clothes or morphs. While everyone abandons well suported figures. Hell, I'm still getting caught up on P4 stuff, while learning P5; still doing most of my work in Carrara 5.
Me, well I'm learning this from the ground up. The project I'm obsesed with right now is boneing and rigging a Make Human figure; add in my on going obsesion with skin shaiders/textures. Actually textures are my strong point. Of coarse having the attention span of your average house cat dosen't help on getting anything done.
Now what was I doing

Ok, now your replying before I post.
Yes the job pays well; especially 12 hours a day 6 days a week, luckally only a few weeks a year like that.
"Are you sure all for me is" I'd have to have a face to face, I've never been wrong. Think I'll bug Posy to day. Battleing with trying to import a BVH file to Posette. So far it's been a train wreck. or that's the way she looks once the BVH motion file is done mangleing her.

I'm sure it's a Carrara 5 bug. I thought betterthenlife said something about C5 having a BVH import bug.
Going to try with Poser5. May be easyer just to use the walk maker.

Post subject: Re: Introduction
Cool, quick and easy work around. Open the BVH in P5, run animation, save as pose. The pose animation works fine in C5; wish all of it's bugs were as easy to work around.

Most interesting. I'm waiting on an animation to finish. so I have time to study this.
I may be slow, but I'm far from stupid.

But not all of them? Do you think it will take a long time? How do you plan to do this?
manleystanley [ Friday, 01 December 2006, 03:42 PM ]
Post subject: Re: Introduction
I beat a computer at chess once, so lets have a go.
It's a simple test animation of the P5 filtered BVH, I'm using posette because she renders and animates fast. It's a simple dance, just to testr the quality of the P5 work around for Carrara. I usually only use P5 to set up the figure for use in Carrara 5.

The animation is going quite well. A bit of deformation in the neck, but that could be Posette's rigging.
