Have you seen this new free tool at http://www.vanishingpoint.biz/freestuff.asp?StartNo=421 ?
A geometry stripper to divide a pp2 into a pp2 and external obj.
There were tools like this around before, but not free, so I made it manually in a text editor til now ](*,) 
Having an external geometry has a lot of advantages. You save space saving cr2s with props parented. You can easyly remap the prop. You have a geometry for making morphs at hand etc...
