Old Animotions Content
-----------------------------------
With the clean-up in Animotions a few months ago, many old Posette and Dork freebies disappeared from the net. Before it hapenned I downloaded what I could. Now, I am trying to contact some of the old people to see if I could repost them here (note, Hasdrubal gave its permission to redistribute his things, it's in a thread in the DAZ3d site).

Mister X it's still in the "business", so to speak (adult comics for a pay site), and so is Sturkwurk, but I haven't been able to locate Quagnon, Gerry and the Immortal. Does somebody has any e-mail address that where I could contact them?

Re: Old Animotions Content

If you look at the read me files, they should clearly state what their
wishes are. Like you can use it commercial or non commercial and
to not sell or say it is your mesh and rigging. Other than that you should
be able to use it as you please so long as it falls under the guidelines and request they ask.
It was their intent to let you have fun with it so I would do just that and enjoy. :thumb:
I hope this helps you in some way. But some of the things of Posette and Dork will be hard to find. Another thing you can do if you need clothes and are not going to animate the character is get some clothes from V2 on to V4 and scale them to meet the needs of the Posette for a render. It is done like that all the time. :hi:

Hello A_C_C :D

Yes, it's a sad thing all this fancy stuff is going down. Without it nobody has a choice left but using V/M4, doing it all mega HiRes, buying expensive computers to render it all, no chance to get a real comic look, cos the old characters worked very much better for this. Not even on the commercial market anything's available to replace them, when you're in need.
So I think it is very important to save this old stuff for the future. They make sense, still.
Besides the creators you mentioned above, I remember some more, Hasdrubal, John Malis and REMC/ThirdEyeFunction. Found no working e-mail for them, either.... :(
I talked to Marv about exactly this topic some days ago. He said he would be uploading his own stuff here, if there was any interest (seems to be... :D ) As for Gerry's stuff(gloves and boots), they are free for redistribution if it's for free and fan-art, so it should be no problem posting them here for download.
As I mentioned above, Marv is thinking about reupping his stuff. He talked about starting a topic about this, but now you did :D . Let's see wat happens.
Maybe were starting a BIG thing here for the community...

The problem is that I lost most of the readmes looooong ago (copying runtimes, erasing clutter, all that jazz). If Gerry stuff can be redistributed, I'll start to package them (I think that I have them all). Also, Hasdrubal, as I said, gave his permission to redistribute the stuff that went down when his geocities and the actionbabecentral site disppeared, for free. Somebody was going to upload it to ShareCg, but no news since February.

Myself, I'm converting my Wonder Woman accesories for V3 to use for Posette, as well as making the belt, the symbol and (If I can't contact quagnon to redistribute his stuff) the tiara.

These two are the Hasdrubal sites which are still up (I suppose that are posted elsewhere, but If anything, I think that we could have all the superhero stuff in one thread):

We'll have to ask Davide to prepare a "Retired Super Hero Resort" or something in our free stuff area :lmao: :yeah:

Next thing will be to search all our own old backups to see what's there and check all the ReadMe's we didn't read way back  ...

You all know the Posetteforever is, and forever will be, no profit. We really would like to preserve the largest possible quantity of Posette and Dork freebies. I created a new category for the superheroes, I called it "Hall of the heroes" ( :D ) and moved the related files there.

I also moved the clothes in the "conforming characters" directory (I'll probably create proper categories in the near future, now that there is something to "categorize" :) )

Files need a thumbnail, I'll do it little by little

Re: Old Animotions Content
-----------------------------------
Well this came at just the right time - I've been plowing through 30-odd Gb of Poser content - mostly freebies I've snarfed over the years... most of which still have their original zips (and therefore readme files) intact.

We need a list of what we are looking for, either author or item.

I also just finished snarfing the Poser freebies at Spenderosity... Being a methodical little vandal, when I first started sucking down files lo those many years ago, I saved them in chronological filing order. I stopped finding freebies on the net in Oct, 2008. When I went back there for the first time in July, I went back to the earliest freebies and worked my way forward.

It was VERY obvious that a lot of stuff had been removed... including a huge amount of Posette and Dork stuff. Sheesh. It was that little fact that made me build a database to keep track of what I had... still slowly working on it now, in fact. I'll add some fields to help track authorship a little better.

(Rambled on enough?)

I'll take a look at what I've got.

Re: Old Animotions Content

Well....I guess that answers my question about if anyone is interested in the old superhero figures. The next few days will be busy for me so I will get to uploading as soon as I get a free moment. As to Gerry's stuff you can contact Hasdrubal. From what I understand he got permission a few years ago to host a portion of Gerry's files. Perhaps he has a current address for Gerry.

Andreas, if you like you can post the Captain America figure for me until I have time to start uploading the other figures. BTW you are the first person, other than myself, to use my Captain America. I never got around to offering it for download before my site went down.

And thanks Davide for setting aside some space for the old superhero files. :D

Now that I think about it I believe I have all the old thumbnails for the old Animotions content. When I download something I tend to download the thumbnail as well for reference when I archive my downloads. It just makes it a bit easier to see what I have when I need a particular item. I'll do some checking.

A note of warning about Black Canary, this figure seems to be based in some kind of Posette Advanced. Meaning that Posette textures aren't all that compatible, and is anatomically correct.

Re: Old Animotions Content

:( Ahh, I see, didn't try downloading. It's been the same with sturkwurk's stuff, and I think REMC/ThirdEyeFunction retired for the same reason, What is a bad thing, cos they wouldn't be easyly persuaded to release at least their P4 based data...

I searched my backups for heroes, I don't have many ( I have to admit, I'm not too much into them, but I like this project :D )

Beside the stuff that's up already I have some characters by Marv, a Dagger, a Satanna and some more
But he will be upping them himself as soon as he finds the time (I hope :D )

further I found by Quagnon:
"artemis-quagnon.zip" a Wonder Woman,
"wondergirl-quagnon.zip"

by Dan Swofford:
"maxima.zip"

by DragonGurl:
"blackwidowclassicP4.zip" and
"DGBlackWidow1.ZIP"/"DGBlackWidow1pt2.ZIP"

Further there is :
"remc-superman.zip", one of the best Supemen ever, It's a shame it will get hard to get the permission to load him up...

I have "wwp4.zip", Wonder Woman from Mr.X, seems to be a different version than the one uploaded by A_C_C, the file is a bit bigger, 2,6MB

Quagnon, Dan Swofford and DragonGurl have no info about redistribution in them (so I assume it o.k. :D )

but we have to avoid double uploads, so we should list what we plan uploading :D

I have both Quagnon Artemis and WonderGirl, but if you have the original zips, it would be better if you upload them. I have been trying to contact Quagnon to ask his permission, but he seems to have disappeared.

I don't have Maxima, neither I have Dragongurl's Black Widows.

About Wonder Woman, well, when I compress an archive I normally use the maximum compression, that can account for the size difference.

I have also some stuff by the Immortal: Spoiler, Impulse and the Armored Boots and Gloves. And some of the SturkWurk stuff that Hasdrubal reuploaded. And naturally some of the Hasdrubal stuff.

If Tormie can upload them in the files, I would be grateful.

I have found that I have:

- Dan Swofford's Thor, Goliath, Wasp, Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye

- Jon Paul Alongi Captain America

- Chemical Brother Judge Anderson (from Judge Dredd)

- C Stacy Superhero Base (Dork with some aditional morphs and a lot of new material zones)

- Nim Productions Rogue and Jubilee

- SturkWurk Warbird

- The Immortal's Wasp,

- Webspinner's Wasp,

- A P3 Supergirl and a Giant Man of unknown origin

- Hasdrubal's Sherman Tank, Miss America (Marvel), Red Skull, Dr. Doom, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Batgirl, Batmobile, and a good numbers of capes and belts.

I think that this is all, and giving that everything is unpacked I have quite a task.

By the way, it's not Posette but I have the full Lara Project package for Vicky, and a couple other things for Mike, Vicky, M3 and V3 that also diappeared from thenet after the cleanup in Animotions.

Roguewing site

And I found a big number of zipped files in a backup drive.

- Webspinner Dr. Spectrum, Hyperion, Dr. Strange

- Antman's props (helmet and gloves, I think that are for Mike) by author unknown

- REMC Blizzard

- the Immortal Jayna and Zan(the Wonder Twins from the Superfriends cartoon), AoD boots (???),

- Chemical Brother Rogue Trooper (a british comic character which was published in the same magazine than Judge Dredd),

- Gerry Male Toe switch (to replace the toe with a "sock" to create the illusion of tights)

- Maple Leaf Sailor Velocity (this is a really weird coincidence),

- quagnon Reflection Maps, Darkseid and a Warhammer

- A set of Spiderman Poses by AoD, SturkWurk and gerry (I suppose that are for Sturk's spiderman, but work as well for Marv's)

- C Stacy supercape and Superhero base, Amazing Man, Dr. Fate, Dr. Midnite,

I just added some of my figures:

Aquaman
New Classic Cyclops for P3 male
Dagger
Dazzler
and an original character of mine "FlagGirl"

I used the readme files as a description and didn't catch my mistake until after the fact about the references to files at Animotions. Is there a way for me to edit out the Animotion file references in the description? Also I have a few comic related props. Should they go in the "Hall of Heroes" section with the figures or just place them in the established prop section?

Anyways, got some things to take care of today. I will try to get some more files up later tonight.

Hi Marv :hugs:
You should be able to edit the text of your uploads. if you open the description page (the one with the download link) there should be an "edit" button on the lower right

Maybe you want to wait with uploading the prop until Davide created a sub-section inside the "Hall of Heroes" for the related props, so we can keep the stuff together. All the boots A_C_C already uploaded should go into a separate cloth section, too. But Davide has to do it, you need admin powers for this :D Yeah, you're right, this is fun :yeah:

Ok, I've added the missing thumbnails too and I'll watch later if there is something that has to be corrected.

My opinion on uploading products for Victoria / Mike ... Well, if they are free it's ok, but we're not giving them more than a generic place into "others" , Andreas said the right words, it should be Daz the one that take care of them.

I would like to thank you for this work :hugs: ... It means a lot for this little community and for the people that have no money for developing their art. In this age of permanent economical crisis this freebies worth a lot more than in the past.

In the last years I went rarely on other 3D sites and I'm scared to see how many of them disappeared or changed completely. I've read the statement on the "new" animotions and I don't understand why they erased the old contents... I've not read more than the main page, anyway, for a commercial site nowadays the cost for the web space is insignificant, the providers throw it on your back literally :dontknow: ... Anyway it's not my garden...

It's already stated in our forum, anyway I just remind everybody that if someone need a space, like a forum or subsection for developing or simply preserve for the future their project just ask and it will be done. As long as I'll be alive Posetteforever will be a no-profit site so no one will earn anything and everything will be for free :yeah: ...

(If someone wonders why :mmmh: , well, I've no shoes to buy for children (I don't have any) , my car is a Diesel, I've a stable job, so I can simply do it ... Even if I'm concerned for the amount of food that my cat consumes :shocked!: )

I fixed all three files but there are others for sure. I'm sorry, I forgot to warn  ... Certain systems when downloading a file with a space in the name, cut the last part (for example "Fantasy Gloves.zip" becomes "Fantasy")
So the solution is to upload a file without spaces in the name...

I've to check up everything  ...

BTW, meanwhile, just add a ".zip" at the end of the file and it will be ok

Unfortunately I missed this discussion when it was in a more active phase, but hopefully one's better late than never. I wasn't very familiar with Animotions, what was or wasn't available there, and who is or isn't a superhero these days, but I have a number of these freeware P4-era character models, including many not previously mentioned. If anyone knows which authors have grown more either stingy or more liberal in their old age, I've listed what I have below along with the author's name whenever possible. If anyone can comment on which models would or wouldn't be appropriate to upload to Posette Forever, I'd be glad to share these classics.

Given the fairly crude standards of quality and lack of technical know-how many years ago, many of the characters (particularly those who are merely costumed heroes rather than beings with unique anatomy) can be easily updated to modern loveliness with only a little effort. For example, in literally three minutes I updated the Poser 3 "Kin" character (who hasn't aged well at all, example 1a) with a decent texture map and some transmapped hair, and now she would look at home in any contemporary scene rendered in the latest versions of Poser (example 1b). If only we had all known years ago how to actually use Poser 4 to its full potential, we'd all have cushy jobs with George Lucas by now. Regarding models that use custom geometry, many simply don't look good given today's standards and I doubt much can be done in those cases since starting from scratch to build a better model would be much more efficient than trying to put lipstick on a hog; in most cases I didn't include the ones I have that look really horrible.

Documentation Key:
1- Documentation specifically allows noncommercial redistribution or documentation makes no mention of redistribution (typically, silence = no contest)
2- Documentation included at time of publication specifically prohibits any redistribution. Congratulations to all the freebie makers of yore who used this harsh condition and thereby inadvertently helped some website gather enough users to turn commercial and stop distributing formerly available freebies-- all your hard work will soon be entirely forgotten. Happy now? On the other hand those were more naive times, and presumably their main concern was to avoid commercial exploitation rather than hobbyist accessibility, so perhaps we shouldn't judge too harshly. Yet I see considerable irony in claiming no one may redistribute your own blatant rip-off of a commercial IP. In other words, in cases where a claim of copyright is made for material that itself infringes copyrights any such secondary claim is invalid and frankly laughable.
3- No documentation available or meagre documentation makes no mention of author's name and terms of use (in either case, whoever made the thing was almost certainly a knucklehead regardless of their artistic talents)

Comic-book Characters

1-AIM Flunkie by Immortal. A pz3-only that calls for geometry files not included with the character. Sigh. Otherwise, he's pretty interesting. (example 4)
1-Ambush Bug by cagedrei (example 6). I never heard of Ambush Bug, but I originally downloaded him because he looked like Mr. Bug from the Micronauts (if anyone but me still remembers that comic).
2-Doc Octopus by AofD (example 5). His mechanical arms are fully poseable, making this a quite nice character for its time.
1-Dr Doom by Phil Hokusai (example 3). Unfortunately this fellow isn't quite a full-fledged Dork, as his body parts are props rather than figure elements.
1-Elektra by Rai (example 8). A nice figure with well-made transmapped clothes, which was unusual for the era in which she was created. With a few updates she could be a starlet once again, and her classic P4 conforming hair has high nostalgic potential in itself.
3-Hawkwoman (example 7). She's a P3 figure with clothes painted onto her figure texture map, but otherwise is a pretty nice character from the old era of P3 figures with clothes painted onto their primary texture maps.
2-Kin by Tweakedout82 (example 1a). Where exactly does she keep her guns and ammo? I'm not sure I want to know.
1-Lara Croft by Phil Hokusai (example 10). Most of us are probably mentally scarred for life from viewing a zillion ineptly composed P4 images of this particular model and her gargantuan... err... guns posted at Renderosity and Renderotica ten or fifteen years ago, but if you haven't had enough here she is in all her glory. In truth, with some better texture maps and plausible proportions she could actually be a pretty nice model even today.
1-Space Ghost by Scott Benson (example 9). I don't know if this is the cartoon or the talk-show version, or if there's even a difference.
1-Ultron by Dan Swofford (example 11). Was there ever a freebie P4 Jocasta model and if so, does anyone have her?
1-Vision by Richard Kane (example 12). Another clothes painted-on P3 job; not bad for the era, but unlikely to ever be very satisfying to his wife the Scarlett Witch in this condition.
2-Wolverine by AofD (example 13). I can't believe this fellow wasn't posted already; presumably then this AofD guy really does want to be a grinch all these years later?

GI Joes (anyone else have more of these?)

3-Cobra Grunt (example 14). An standard-issue minion of evil, with a few decent props.
3-Cover Girl (example 15). Either I don't understand how this character is supposed to work or some files are missing. She seems like she should have a pretty cool jacket that opens and closes in the front (but doesn't work), and the jacket texture is both applied to the wrong material and set as transparent even though no transparency map is included. The cr2 and rsr are in different subfolders and the rsr doesn't accurately depict the character, implying the author was a bit frazzled (no documentation is included). Finally, her gun (which shows up as two props but is actually one item) mysteriously disappears at render time despite being fully opaque. I'm confused-- how about you?
3-Lady Jaye (example 24). No documentation and author unknown, but presumably by the same person who made Cover Girl. Like the former, Lady Jaye has a shirt with all sorts of morphs listed but none of these work. However unlike Cover Girl, the rsr thumbnail for Lady Jaye accurately represents her actual appearance, so presumably she works as intended.

Star Wars Characters

1-C3P0 by John Malis (example 17). Human-cyborg relations? That's actually against the law in Alabama...
1-Darth Vader by rodnoy (example 18). Great for his time, but he hasn't aged well.
1-Mara Jade by John Malis (example 19). A nice character with good clothes and props; all she needs is a decent texture map and some better hair to remain a first-class model for the 21st century.
3-Stormtrooper (example 20). Whoever made this-- good job! A very nice model even for today, it was definitely cutting edge ten or more years ago. I also recall a very similar 3ds version who was eternally frozen in a single pose, but this fella is the fully functional P4 figure.

Original Heroes and Villains

1-Adine by darkworld (example 21). Supposedly she's a cyborg elf from the year 3000.
1-Circe by Menno Jensen (example 22). The documentation description seems like she's meant to be a Greek superhero, but either she forgot her costume or superheroes in Greece prefer to work au naturel in honor of the ancient Olympic traditions. Maybe her superpower is to streak around and create distractions? In any case, she has a pretty face and was rather novel years ago for featuring a decent P4NW bump map that was much better than anything else available at the time.
1-Ultimis by Sekroid (example 26). I don't know this lady's story, but I definitely wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley.

Base Models for Aspiring Superheroes

1-Female Body Builder by John Paul Moore (example 23). I've certainly got a lot of mileage out of this gal over the years. If John Paul Moore is in the audience, THANKS!!!!!
1-Physique Man by Richard Kane (example 16). Highly detailed with dozens of morphs; seems to be the exact counterpart of the female bodybuilder even though made by a different author.

Not supervillains but too nice to be forgotten...

2-Alien by SixPackWolf (example 25). "Made exclusively for the Poser Props Modelers Guild." What a shame, this outstanding model now seems destined for oblivion. I don't make many sci-fi scenes, but if I did this guy would be in them.
1-Orc Warrior by John Malis (example 27). Calls for a geometry file (some kind of pants) not included with the character, but otherwise a fine model. Can be easily updated with a contemporary outfit instead of medieval gear to make a modern-day menace.
1-She-Orc by John Malis. This unique Posette is definitely a keeper. Using a revised texture, better hair, and some body reshaping, I recently made some fairly nice-looking Halloween pinups starring this orc lady (example 28).

Somewhat off-topic (but related to superheroes and not worth making a new discussion over), does anyone know of any freebie shoulder holster props? I've recently been trying (wip) to build a P4 replica of Aya Brea from the Parasite Eve games. However in her blue-jeans outfit without her gun holster (example C, as opposed to her shorts and jacket outfit, example B) she merely looks like a suburban housewife rather than a heroine. I checked the usual websites, but couldn't find one single freeware model. Sure I could make a transmap for the P4 women's vest, but that's going to look absolutely horrible (especially with props attached).

I mentioned some trouble with the GI Joes Cover Girl and Lady Jaye. I was looking at the "Black Canary" character already available here and see she uses the same jacket as the other women-- and Canary's coat isn't working for me either (example A). Presumably, she's not supposed to look like that. Interestingly, the Black Canary character has an additional geometry file in her download called "blwdressshirt2.obj" that didn't come with the GI Joes. Blwdressshirt2.obj is an original file installed by Poser 4 as well (but the one in the Canary pack is a different size and more recent vintage), so my suggestion for using this (not tested yet) is to name the obj from the Canary pack blwdressshirt3.obj and text-edit Canary's cr2 accordingly. Poser 4's Geometries directory is a murky mess by design, and I have no idea what models I may or may not have that reference my existing version of blwdressshirt2-- so this method seems best to avoid breaking anything I won't find out about until much later when I've forgotten I swapped a geometry file.

I had a look around for free shoulder holster, found a dead link, and nothing else, but I came close at ShareCG, and it would involve a bit of work, can't say what because I'm not playing with my P6 at the moment.

Here are the links to some clothing that are for another figure,

You may get a harness from one of them in the geometries folder, and stick your preferred gun holster on it.

Good luck.

Thanks Chromium, that's more than I was able to find. Seems like this would be a common item, but maybe not. I'll look at these in detail and see if there's anything to work with.

What's the consensus on the superhero models? Should I send them in to someone?

I looked up Aya Brea, to see what you were after, but she is also shown with a other holsters too, though I must say your rendition of Aya Brea, does look fine.

I think Ahjah, was to examine your action figures closer.

Oh dear my last link (above) seems to be dead now.

But fresh off the press comes this one;

It may work.

(The freebie section is certainly worth checking out).
