I will go first: As you many know, I had been away from computer art for some years. When I returned last year, I started following the binary newsgroups were 3D artworks are posted. My ISP's news server is not very good for those newsgroups. I saw articles posted as replies to the posting by someone named Tormentor. I did not get to see the picture and only fragments of its description in the form of quoted text. Those fragments got me very curious to see the picture and read the complete description. Latter I saw some more replies to other artworks by Tormentor, again I didn't see the the inital posts of those threads. The replies and the quoted fragments intriqued me even more. Then I got lucky! I don't remember at the moment if it was from the first initial posting by Tormentor that was did see, or if it was in one of the quoted blocks, but I saw the address for Posetteforever. So, I came here and saw that it was more than a personal gallery website. I looked around a little and registered. The registeration process did not go smoothly. The account activation email did not arrive. I had read a news posting on the portal page mentioning slowness, so I thought that was the reason. I waited, for about a week I waited for the activation email, but it never came. I have had registeration problems at another rather large site before and so I had not expected much in any help. One night, I sent an email to Tormentor explaining my situation and provided all the information that I thought was needed to prove my identity in relations to this account. I asked him if he could either have the system send me a new copy of the activiation email, or if he could delete my account so that I could try registering again. I didn't expect aid or a reply for a long while or ever. I went to bed for the night. Next morning I found Tormentor's reply waiting for me in my mailbox on my workstation's harddrive. In that message he told me that he had activated my account and it was ready for me to log in. :D This was not what I was expecting at all, I was very happy and quite impressed. As you can see from my account profile, that was in November of 2004. I sent Tormentor by thanks and began to lurk and leach. For reasons that are not important here, I had been in lurker mode for several years. It was hard to start to again speak in public articles such as this message. With much help from what I found here and for a while at one other site, I found almost found the courage to post a message. But I felt that I would have no credibility until I had something to offer, that being a picture in the gallery. I had been working on a picture starting at the end of Novemeber beginnig of December. Once I had it ready at the very end of December, I took the foudn the courage to speak up here in a public forum. Actually I believe that first statement I posted was a comment in the gallery. A couple of day latter I uploaded the picture "After the Evening" and started talking here on a regular basis. You should already have known that I don't like too much the commercial aspect of the 3d art, I can stand a limited use of banners and commercial in the forums, but after this I get pissed and leave the place. I began to learn about poser at Poserpros, I came there searching for freebies at the end of august 2002 and stayed partecipating little by little in the discussions and uploading my early pictures (not very different from actual ones :roll: ). I had an idea of that site, I thought it was different from Renderosity because all the people said that the big one was too much interested in money and there were discussions between the ultra gurus about the difference in percentage of the income, things that I have not understood at the moment :mmmh: ... At the beginning of 2003 what disturbed me a lot was the beginning of the systematic and annoying use of the banners, not only one at the top, but [b]2[/b] banners, one at the top and one at the bottom of the page, and it was the reason why I bought the norton internet security package that has a countermeasure for the ads. Then, it appeared as an announcement a commercial about a new don't-know-what-it-was package for Victoria, and It was there , I couldn't avoid to see that disturbing thing and I knew it was useless to begin a quarrel because when I watched around me I saw a lot of people interested in earning money selling their 3d stuff and only a little group of people who seemed to use my own "philosophy". So I decided to open a different forum dedicated to my beloved Posette :heartbeat: who I would never have exchanged for one of those Victorias :prrr: because Posettes are pretty, cute and don't sell herselves :whistle: ... I didn't know (and actually know only a little :oops: ) how to build a site, so I searched for the same software of poserpros and I found that phpbb was a free software :lol: that everybody could download and use, so I practiced with it in a free place on lycos (it's the same address where we have the temporary/emergency forum) which can be named "Posetteforever Beta", lol. Then I searched for a cheap host. The sponsor of a site on phpbb which is http://phpbbhacks.com is Ifroggy, manteined by Patrick, a cute guy who has different place for domains, hosting and so on and offered a discount for hosting a phpbb on 100megswebhosting. I saw the prices and I thought that I could easily pay for them, and I wondered why the people on other sites cried so much for the amount of money used to keep the site opened :mmmh: and the necessity to have banners floating around (ok, Tormie was and actually is so "innocent" :doh: ). I thought that I could pay for it with my bus driver wages and I made it. The first address of posetteforever was http://posetteforever.100meg22.com that is still working with a tranfer to here. Later I bought the domain name at ifroggy. We had some problems with 100megswebhosting because of Posy :heartbeat: and Angela (probably Angela a little bit more) who seemed to burn out their server so they suspended our account without notice (It was a real tragedy :doh: :sad: to come home and see that page), so I bought an hosting account at godaddy where we actually are. They solved some slowness problems keeping the database on one of their fast server so that Posy and sometimes Angela can mess around and that is where we actually are :heartbeat: ... About the very first time, I sent invitations to the people I thought who were in the same mood of me and to other friends that I had and still have at poserpros, but surprisingly only 2 or three of them came here and became active members, I thought at it and realized that PF probably is not the right scenario for them, the philosophy of the site is not the concurrency against other similar sites but a totally different approach, playing with 3d art peacefully without the commercial fog all around and don't pushing the users to buy something, directly or not. For these reasons I realized and still think that PF will not grow too much but will remain a small place like a kindergarden and I like it as it is. I had not long ago discovered Poser and was stunned with the amount of downloads available! I had never participated in forums in any real way prior to that (around 2001, I think), but I have become a bit of a loud mouth since. Joining forums of various types all over the place. At PP and most of the other BIG POSER sites I found I was generally ignored when I posted... unless I was praising someone's work. Except for a few members, Tormie, Den, Guilty, DV, etc. Strangely it was often their art that I viewed when I visited the other sites. Same mind set, you see... or something like that. Maybe we're all just crazy in the same way :whistle: When Tormie open this little place, I think it was both He and Den who invited me over and Tormie asked if I would like to help moderate the site. I was flattered and said yes :) and I'm still here. The commercial aspect didn't worry me so much. Green and excited I put my art out on the site. I had my own little thing. You see it was not to buy anything if I could help it, rather make most of my own models and stuff if I could. I wanted to be original to where no one had the same thing. I mean its art. You don't want something that everybody else has. You want your art to be you. I always had this thought and it is said in many comments to people starting out. There is no right or wrong with it. It is what people vision and get out of it. It is what it is. An extention of ones soul. It's art. With that said I found myself looking out of the bounderies of the site and ran into something diffirent. I ran into a person named Tormentor and a Posette named Posy. Now keep this in mind this was not thought of in any other place I had ever seen. A "AI" Posy with the sence and software to speak to you and carry a conversation. I feel in love with this site. :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat: I got to know slowly a man who later was known as Den Tracy. Den was like a spock. Hard as nails but the way in him to make you laugh. I later was talking to Davide and noticed that I was talking to someone who was down to earth like me. Not "Hey look at me I own this site bit". But a kind human being. Or something like that. :roll: Along with Ozy, DV, GP, Den Tracy, Ahjah, TdaC, Posy and Tormentor the place was alive with humor. If you don't believe that then look in the forums. They are loaded with laughter. Then the rest came to laugh just like us. I guess it was all this that made it a home. They (meaning other Poser Artists) where out there doing their thing and we where doing ours and couldn't be any happier. :thumb: We where in the Nut House and we where having parties, cleaning the mess Tormie made in the bathroom. :sick: Don't go there, not a pretty site. :uuh: I stayed and stayed. Everyday was like a TV show for a kid waiting to watch it. I was asked later by Davide if I was interested in being a Mod here. Who could say no. I humble excepted and have been here everysence. I smile all the time here. No other place do I know has the special spirit as this. I arrived here by way of The Sara Project, at the invitation of Pangor. So I must blame him for my being here. Not blaming him in a bad way mind you. I have been lurking and reading all the forums to see what PosetteForever is all about. I'm hooked. I like the atmosphere here and will continue to come around. I don't have Poser (yet) but came to the poser world by a rather long trail. I occasionally like to play 3D games. Mostly I like the single player strategy with a little fighting with the bad guys. My favorites being the Star Wars games. I would marvel at the realism of the art and animation. One day I decided to learn how it was done. Starting with my first game "Jedi Knight:Jedi Academy, I found a couple of programs that allowed me to look at the characters. Meshes, textures, UVmapping????? Well, I tried to learn and played around with the XSI Ghoul2, but I could barely say Ghoul2 and I read that it was difficult to use. I tried a little re-texturing of existing textures. The next 2 games "Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) and KOTORII, were done by a different company and used a format compatible with 3ds Studio Max. This program costs a lot of money, but there is a free version called gmax. Over at the Lucas Films official forums a gentleman named Fred had written a program to extract the program data so others could write mod packages and create new characters. Here I learned that scripting was used to do a lot of the interfacing. By now I had figured out what everything was called, and started trying to change meshes, and material groups, and just trying out different things. The content on the Turbosquid site, home of gmax, was very costly but very well done. I started searching the web for 3D information. This was in late August of this year. I found DAZ Studio and gave it a try. At first I was intrigued. Now I could pose and clothe characters very easily. Shortly after finding DAZ, they had their big anniverary sale and gave away a whole bunch of V2 and M2 stuff for free. Grabbed it all. On a dial-up connection it took forever, but I would browse the forums at the same time and started to learn of poser and other 3D sites. I found Sara and downloaded as much of her as I could find. I finally switched to a high speed always on broadband connection. I was screaming around the 3d sites collecting tutorials and information and just getting my general knowledge up to date. A few days ago I stopped by The Sara Project to check for any news and bumped into Pangor at the door. He kindly mentioned, "There are some good folks over at PosetteForever. You should stop by." And I did. And I did again. And still here! Tormentor, I love the site. Simple, clean, and yes! No Banners!! I especially like Posy. It took me a couple of looks to realize that she was (maybe I shouldn't say it in front of her. Might get whacked with the broom) an AI. Really sweet and makes me laugh. Well, that is how I came to be here. Four short months since falling face first into the poser world. A retired Navy submariner currently working in retail auto parts. No real artistic background in drawing, but have done some serious camera work for my own pleasure. Time to start learning again! And now a question: I have the Ugly Step Sister and a lot of her extended family, but I like the older models also. If I have figured things out correctly, to use Posette, I will have to find an old copy of Poser 4 to purchase. I will take the "blame" ;-) I was tempted to inform you about Posy, but then thought you might enjoy meeting her on your own. Have you seen the posts by her younger sister Angela? Angela is quite a daredevil. Guard you car keys when she is around. You will have no problems getting Posette, Dork, Don, Judy, etc. Each version of Poser includes the models that were provided with the prior versions as well as the new models created for each version. I have owned 3 versions of Poser, Poser 2, 4, and 5 so some of these I have purchased multiple times: Poser 1 man and woman: Poser 2: nude and clothed men women and childern. Poser 3: nude and preclothed men, women, animals and robots. Poser 4: nude and preclothed men, women, childern. Poser Pro: Cartoon people. Poser 5: Nude and preclothed, Don, Judy, Will and Penny. With Poser 6 you will also get Jessie and James and perhaps other models depending on bundling deal. There is a flaw with the packaging of some version of Poser 6 that it lacks a number of the Poser 5 people and the Poser 4 character variations. Those missing models and character are available free on-line at Content Paradise. All of the older models are often disrespected by many people, but each model can be used to create characters that are difficult or perhaps impossible with other models. Each one is charming in their own way. There are also remapped versions of Posette, they have the same shape (except posette2003, I never worked with her so I don't know if she could be considered a Posette because it should be compatible with the original morphs) but different possibilities or things added, like Pitklad's Nea who use the V2 texture maps or the (half forgotten) EVE by Arduino, which has the body divided into different zones (this is the Posette I use the most)... About 3d games here I and my bro play a lot with Wolfenstein-Enemy Territory :whistle: that is a free game and very popular ! I'm also fond of submarines :lol: ! I am pretty sure it was during one of my super frustrated moments after purchaseing Poser5 a in March 2005 and quickly finding out it was extremely difficult. Everyone here has been so kind in helping me along my way. I am still a little confused about a few things... Mesh morphs why can't I get certain characters I have downloaded to work(Hannah for example located here http://www.kleopetra.dk/) I load Aiko3 and then try to apply Hannah and she doesn't look like the picture on the site. Her eyes still look like Aiko3. When I go to Expression and try to load Hannah it says "Some information stored in this library doe not pertain to figures of this type" I have double checked and made sure all the files are in the right place. Finding shoes for all of my characters. I have gotten the Jatex wedding dress to fit a few of my characters but would love shoes to fit the other characters as well as free textures for the dress and a 3d Bridal Bouquet. I have an idea what I want for the bouquet but don't know how to make a 3D object that my bride can hold in her hand. The error you are receiving is when the face mat is being applied to the A3 LE. It does not occur with the full release version. Usually the LE or limited (light) edition of the various characters does not contain the entire geometry (mesh) of the character and does not take the same mats for some areas of the body. To get the Hannah face on Aiko you would have to use the "!Aiko 3" character. That version provides a few poses the base geometry and an almost useless character control file. To make A3 (Aiko3) useful, you need to have her morphs and maps pack. That "addon" package provides some texture maps and poses, more importantly it provide the real character control file (cr2) for A3 and is also known as A3 complete, this control file contains the builtin morphs needed to make A3 useful, it uses the base geometry provided by the free version, so it is called an addon for the free version. In reality the free LE version and the morphs and maps addon together is the real A3 package. A3 is modeled to be a Manga/Anime cartoon character. However the complete version of A3 has a couple of interesting built fullbody morphs, one is stylized, it will modify her to me even more extremely cartoonish, the other is "realistic" it will give her a more natural less Anime/Manga appearance. The characters for A3 on the site that you provided the link to all require the full non-free version of A3. That is detectable by looking at the thumbnails on that site. Each of those characters use various levels of the realistic morph available with the complete A3 model. The error message "Some information stored in this library doe not pertain to figures of this type" is complaining about those morphs not being available in the version of A3 that you are using. Or if you do have the maps and morphs pack, you have been using the wrong A3 model, since both the complete A3 and A3 LE will be in your character library once to complete package is installed. I am a fan of "Automobiles as works of Art". So I could not resist. When I looked through the "wheeled sections" of the freebies forum, and saw all the interesting, and useful vehicles; I was very pleased. After I downloaded some models, I spent some time looking around; and realized that a lot of Artists whose work I liked and respected from other sites were here as well; and I was interested. I keep coming back because There is a real atmosphere of "Creative Joy" here. Now I'm hooked. I became aware of Poser when I bought Bryce 5 from DAZ. I bought Poser 5 just before Poser 6 was released. Was just back on the net after a few year's absence and hunting for free hair meshes for Posy, Vicky and and the rest. (Nothing worse than a bald Vicky. Initally started at Renderosity, because I remembered the sampler that came with 3D World magazine a LOOONG while back, and thought there might be a couple more freebies available. Nearly dropped dead of shock when I found out HOW large the freebie scene had grown... So, still on dial-up, started snarfing everything I considered usable from 'rosity in a methodical 'start from oldest and work my way forward' method. (Only JUST finished a week ago, and that's with a month on broadband as well, mind you...!) Along the way, ran into Mylochka's retro hair styles (love 'em!), and while at her site noticed a link saying her older stuff was here. Breezed in, registered, and snarfed 'em. While downloading (at this point still on dial-up) I started reading through the forums... and noticed very quickly that this was NOT your run-of-the-mill site. Once I started browsing the gallery (again, from earliest to newest), I was stunned, impressed and frankly a little over-awed. But I knew I had found a new home on the net. I log on every day now out of habit. Can't help myself. Once I've finished raiding all the freebies I can find (and I've pretty much emptied out all the big sites now...) I want nothing more in life than to settle down into a comfy chair with my trusty PC and render my brains out... ... and post 'em here. I do not remember the exact chain of links I followed that lead me to this wonderful archive and forum, but I am glad I stumbled across it. I was looking for some older content for the Daz Generation 3 figures, specifically some really nice cybernetics I remember seeing once. I knew it was not on the main sites such as Daz, Renderosity, RDNA, or CP, so I have spent months trying to find the privately owned site it was on again with no luck. This search involves following chains of links from vendor and private sites for Poser and 3D content (many of those links now dead links at that). Often when on such a hunt, I will stumble across other websites with wonderful legacy content, and will end up bookmarking those as well. That is how I found this site. I still make use of Posette, and Dork, and other figures from the orriginal Poser 4 package. I am an advocate of legacy content for a large number of reasons - but in large part it is because of my background in 3D. I have been doing 3D animations and work since the good old days of the Commodore Amiga 2000, and Lightwave 1.0. I followed it's development up until Commodore went bust in the 90's and a few years later, Newtek abandoned the Amiga platform all together. At the time I had already invested a substantial amount into an Amiga 4000 with the full Video Toaster Flyer just 2 years before - and had all my money tied up in paying off those loans - with nothing to purchase an IBM or software to even make it comperable to what I already had in my Amiga. So for the remainder of the 90's I plodded along animating at 60mghz, with polygon counts below 1000 as the PC platform caught up and surpassed my capabilities. Still deeply in debt I dropped out of 3D and animating around 1999/2000 when my faithful old Amiga developed issues. I finally acquired a few PCs, though still not fast enough to do quite what I wanted, and without the software - then I stumbled on Poser 4 at a friend's house in 2004 and saw a whole new possibility of animation. I picked up a legacy set of Poser 4 Pro Pack I found used, and a used copy of Lightwave 5.6 for the PC and set out trying to make new clips. I have a lot of clips I started back then on My celeron 833mghz that just never got finished because 512mb of memory just wasn't enough. It was not until late 2009 I made a serious and concerted effort to return to 3D in any serious fashion - devoting money to newer coftware and some refurbished computers to render on. Because of all of these issues I still feel that 3D content is not really just about the polly count as much as how well those polly's are used. I feel that Posette and Dork can still be very useful for many simpler animated projects, or even cel-shaded style work, and are a lifesaver when creating large scenes where tens, or hundreds of background characters are needed. I am not as much of a fan of the newer Daz G4 figures, as they are complete resource hogs - and unescessarily at that (just one of them brings my quad core 6gb ram machine to a snail's pace). I still like to collect as much legacy material to make my older legacy Poser figures as versatile as possible, and regret not having funds or resources to acquire much of the now lost commercial content for such figures when it was available.
