Re: Notable Posettes Of Yesteryear
-----------------------------------
If we grant some credence to Posette critics who argued that with her inherently athletic physique, the default Posette is unsatisfactory as a model to generally depict an average or realistic female character, then we should keep in mind such criticism usually fails to consider Posette's range and flexibility as a model. Posette is a versatile figure who can take many forms via morphs and other methods, and only a lazy or unreasonable critic would conflate her default appearance with her ultimate value as a model. With the wealth of free morphs and character sets available for P4NW in her own era (and a few more developed afterward), anyone can have a satisfactory Posette in nearly any size and shape desired.

There have been plenty of Posettes designed to portray roles featuring curvier, plumper, more realistic, or softer female physiques. Two popular examples in the 1990s were called Fatsy by renapd and Charisse by Wynter. Unfortunately, both of these figures accomplished most of their physique effects by scaling of Posette's body parts, an inferior method which causes endless problems and distortions when one attempts to pose the figure. The interaction of scaled limbs with any conforming clothing items amplifies these troubles further at posing time. The best alterations of Posette's geometry are nearly always accomplished with morph work, and thus the fuller-figured Posettes of enduring practical value are those which relied primarily on morphing effects rather than scaling effects.

If we say that the realism of Posette's figure can be increased by thickening her limbs, increasing the width of her hips, and the augmenting the depth of her midsection, then there were several important morphworks which simulated these variations in a deft manner. Examples included the characters by our friend ahjah called Natural 3 (available in the Posette Forever downloads area) and FullFiguredFem by Traveler, as well as a separate morph-only set by Traveler called 'Morph World Rubenesque.' Though details vary, these sets all drive toward a similar aesthetic in a similar manner. For simple and low-intensity additions of realistic feminine curviness, ahjah's character is recommended because the morphs will rarely interfere with posing, remaining smooth even in ambitious bends/rotations, and likewise will rarely cause joint distortions at intersections between limbs.

In terms of aesthetics, I think the best example of this overall approach was a yet another character by Traveler called 'Heavy Female Nude.' Heavy Female Nude is not superior in every detail; for example, the figure's general aesthetic is improved by replacing Traveler's work on the chest with the morphs from ahjah's character or Traveler's own FullFiguredFem, and the figure can also benefit considerably by application of Jim Burton's 'Thigh Lump' removal morphs. Yet when considered overall, Heavy Female Nude presents what will probably the most desirable aesthetic for those seeking the 'realism=thicker' look for Posette.

Yet another separate morph set by Traveler, once available on his famous P4-era website Morph World, was called 'P4Fem_PotBelly.' The set offered two morphs, one for Posette's hip, and another for her abdomen. I think those looking for a Posette with a softer, thicker, or more realistic physique will be very pleased with the results of these particular morphs. This especially true if the morphs are used in conjunction with any of the figures mentioned above.

In the sample image below, ahjah's Natural 3 is shown on the top left, while Traveler's Heavy Female Nude is on the top right. I added standard P4 Female Hair 1 to both characters, as both are bald out of the box. The ahjah character is meant as a body morph resource; her morphs should be transferred to other Posettes via the Morph Manager program, as she's not really meant to be used as a character by herself. For example, her face morphs have been removed, so she's unable to make expressions. I used the default P4 Woman Texture on Natural 3, which is also the texture Traveler's figure uses of her own accord. The Traveler character also helpfully comes a magnet set designed to alter some standard P4 conforming clothing to better fit the figure of Heavy Female Nude.

Off topic, we can see what a difference material settings make here, as we have two figures using the same texture map. I used my own usual material settings on the ahjah figure, while the Traveler figure uses the ancient settings which were standard in the historical Poser 4 era.

Moving beyond the relatively simple 'realism=thicker' realm into the category of blatantly obese Posettes, the best figure from historical Poser 4 times was a character called 'Pleasingly Plump' by Duane Moody. I've shown the default appearance of Pleasingly Plump in the middle row of the image above. As with the other Posettes discussed, the figure can benefit from additional end-user modification, such as application of Jim Burton's thigh lump/muscle removal morphs. Moody's figure comes with a bikini top and bottom sized to fit her shape, as well as a version of the P4 Female Hair 3 with a length morph. She also comes with her own texture map, though she does not have a bump map.

Moody's Pleasingly Plump does make heavy use of body part scaling as a supplement to her morphs, which was probably the easiest way for Moody to obtain her obese physique. As a point of curiosity, I've also included in my example image a side profile of Pleasingly Plump, with her body scaling reset to Posette defaults, so that only her actual morphwork remains. I think we can still see that she's a good figure of her own body type.

A notable problem with Pleasingly Plump is her rear end. Whether scaled or not, the general shape produced by the morph interaction of hip and thighs leaves a large and noticeable mismatch crater in that area. For this reason an artist intending to do a lot of rendering of nude rear profiles with a classic-era figure would probably want to go with Traveler's character instead, to avoid additional postwork in repainting the area.

Those interested in these bulkier types of physiques could certainly improve the Moody figure further, by adding additional morphs to increase the depth of her buttocks, as well as the thickness of her legs and arms. Perhaps unexpectedly, some of the physical fitness Posettes previously discussed here, such as Marv's Heroine and JanReinar's P4MusclePak, work well for this purpose on any Posette's arms and legs. Applying any fitness Posette's hip and abdomen morphs to Pleasingly Plump, however, would eradicate her chubby belly, so for that bit Traveler's Rubenesque and Pot Belly morphs, as well as some lower strength applications from ahjah's Natural 3 or Traveler's Heavy Female, would probably be a satisfactory blend enhancement.

Leaving aside the Poser 4 era in a search for the best grossly obese Posette ever, I think the undisputed winner must be declared as an excellent morph set by our old friend JanReinar called 'Fat Lady,' available in the female morphs section here at Posette Forever. The morph set dates from 2009, when the P4 era had long ended; by that time, hobbyist community interest in anything related to Posette had largely receded to the website you are now reading. Better late than never, however-- JanReinar did an outstanding job on his morphs-only obese character, who does not make any use of body scaling at all, and thus must be considered the optimal and superior Posette exhibiting her body type.

Further increasing the excellence of this morph set, it includes additional morphs for the P4 Women's Vest and P4 Skirt to make those conforming clothing items properly fit this oversized figure, so that she isn't relegated to nude-only renders like most non-standard Posette adaptations of any shape.

As with Duane Moody's Pleasingly Plump character, I've included 3 views of Fat Lady Posette in my sample image, a clothed and unclothed front profile, as well as an unclothed side profile, to demonstrate how very good these morphs are. The result of these morphs is a Posette whose obesity nearly equals renapd's classic standard 'Fatsy,' but unburdened by the extensive and disruptive body part scaling used by the renapd figure.

To make use of the Fat Lady morphs, the morph targets in the download pack must be applied individually to each of a standard Posette's body parts. If using the clothing morphs, first load each clothing item and conform it to Posette, then load the morph targets. In the example images here, I set all the morph dials to 1.0, both on Fat Lady and on her clothing. After the dial settings are selected, full body morphs could be further spawned on Posette for convenience.

JanReinar is to be congratulated on his morph work, which is a massive deformation of Posette-- no easy thing to accomplish without leaving odd warps and joint mismatches. Though this Posette came along far too late to garner any acclaim in the heydays of Posette's popularity as a model, she can and should still be appreciated as a remarkable Posette technical achievement, readily available for any scene calling for a realistic super-sized figure.
