Pic Description: |
Another Richard Mandel RE2 SCG freebie, but built by ''Roku'' for RE2 for L4D2 campaigns. More info on...

Beyond a complex provenance, the model offered several challenges. The bigger room had no ''set'' luminaires, the smaller room had one (1) pendant lamp of unfamiliar type and the usual ~40% OBJ import scale seemed ''sized large''. IMHO, 33~~35% would look ''better'', but I stayed with the 40% as made room less claustrophobic.
Upside, the model was ''only'' ~4.3 MB plus textures, so would be fairly easy to wrangle.
I began by converting ceiling texture''s two stripes to flush panel luminaires by wary ambiance masking. Masked like-wise, the side-room''s pendant looked okay until I realised the ''shade'' was glass. Transparency mask required...
And then to the ''elephants in the room'', the two doors. I could make them transparent, hide them for a good side-on camera angle, but that made the side-room''s empty doorway look silly.
As the set''s OBJ was ''only'' ~4.3 MB, I was soon able to dissect out the doors using free Wordpad. Their vertices were too combined for editing by inspection, needed a CAD app. After again despairing of several UIs, I tried free Wings, managed to select out and separately save each door as a stand-alone OBJ. Happily, these still called the original texture.
Loaded to Poser at same scale as set, end-door''s OBJ beamed in at ''0,0,0''. I set ''Show Origin'', iterated that from centre-mass to bottom of hinge-line, then inched door into waiting gap. Twirl a-jar on hinge line, smile. Do quick test-render, smile wider.
As ''Box'' was busy re-doing a render I''d forgotten to clear from queue, I''ve posted a ''local'' job. Superfly, progressive, 64 pixel-samples, vol-bounces and buckets.
I''ve attached the ambiance and transparency masks to show my thinking.

Finally found why PF would not accept this post: When I stuck the masks on the side of main image, the pic size auto-scaled to 2750 x 2610, but I did not notice. Oops... |

Seen from side, through that wall's invisible door, shows what I did with ceiling.

The room at the end, with its a-jar door. Different levels of super-ambiance, labels added in post-work with free Irfan View...

![](https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/eusa_think.gif) So, when you dissect with Wings3D, then the resultant OBJ still references the original texture file? That's very useful! Thank you kindly ![](https://www.posetteforever.com/images/smiles/wink.gif) !
