Post Uninstalling.... Not so bad when you don't have to!

Late last year I was having trouble with disk space. I was about to delete Poser from my HD. I wanted to prune the libraries but the job was just too big. Finding all the cr2 files, then the rsr, obj and any textures and props that belong to any given item takes far too long and seems like too much hard work.

When you delete an item from the library, it only deletes the reference to that item, most of the associated files remain, uselessly taking up resources.

Then I found the Pun program. Poser uninstaller. Awesome little freeware. Well, I'm raving a bit, but it saved deleting Poser and made cleaning out the libraries a breeze.

One small warning, check the listed associated files. Some characters do refer in their cr2 to obj that are essential to the operation of the base Poser figures, etc. So take a moment to read the list before hitting recycle.

Here's a link to the program. It's on a commercial site, but there are also some other freebies.

If you all already knew about this, then, well I'll feel a little silly, but happy for my HD.

Just glad to pass it on

I deleted about 2GB of Poser Stuff I never used, or only used once and then forgot about.

The worst were some of the bump maps, in .bum format. Had a few that were over 50MB in size, buried in sub folders and never noticed.

I've killed off my old runtime folder (well almost, it's sitting on another HD as backup untill I'm sure I can delete it), and have started the grand job of re-installing the usefull stuff.
Still got a lot to go

Re-installing the stuff... that takes so long. You have my sympathies

I changed computers about two years ago and did all that. It took forever.

I used two DVDs just to get obj,cr2,rsr,and a few others.Never have I ever put the whole thing with Poser on DVD.They have a blue laser burner that can hold if I,m not mistaken 18GB on a double sided
disk.Boy talk about progress.

Dual layer DVD's will hold like 9GB, if its double sided then I bet it wouild be around 18 GB. I don't think anyone is selling that technology to the public yet tho...

I'll have to look more into that Landman but I think think the technology is here now and they
have made a blue laser writer.I had seen something about it on a site called DVD Help.Your right
about the 18 GB on the double side.I did'nt think about that. But they are so expensive that they
are not worth the money. However I have been told that an 18 double sided was in fact a 9 GB two DVD pressed together.Good talking to you.
