Subject: Translation requests...
Hi there;

I had an interesting thought this morning...

What are common parent sayings in the many languages that are spoken by the members here?
I mean things like:

1.) Listen to your mother.
2.) Don't argue with your sister.
3.) Clean your room {and that's not cleaned}.
4.) Do your homework.
5.) Practice makes perfect.
6.) Time for bed {or get ready for bed}.

I think that if I could use such sayings, it may help my daughters to explore things with a more "international viewpoint". So, what better place to begin my own exploration, than the "International Community" that is PosetteForever.

What do you think?

English meaning

1.) Listen to your mother. Or else!
2.) Don't argue with your sister. Or else!
3.) Clean your room {and that's not cleaned}. Or your grounded for a month!
4.) Do your homework. Because your not getting any smarter!
5.) Practice makes perfect. Because your going to make mistakes without practice!
6.) Time for bed {or get ready for bed}. Or else the Sock Monster will eat you!

I guess that covers it. :D :lmao:

1) Ascolta tua madre
2) Non litigare con tua sorella
3) Pulisci la tua stanza
4) Fai i compiti
5) L'esercizio rende perfetti
6) Vai a letto

These are the translation in italian, obviously they are often seasoned with some bad words depending on the stress level of the parent :bad-words: ...

Thank you all (you too Posy) for your assistance.

Now, I need to develop a "mutual frame of reference"; so the daughters will want to explore further. {Hmm... maybe the "11 Home Rules" from their Tae Kwon Do school...?}

OK balaoo sayed it in spanish, I don't know where is he/she from but here in Argentina we use
a little more imperative way:

1) ¡Hacele caso a tu madre!
2) ¡No pelees con tu hermana!
3) ¡Limpià¡ tu pieza!
4) ¡Hacà© tus tareas!
5) Persevera y triunfarà¡s (this is not a translation of you phrase but is the one we use for this, persevere and you'll triunph )

Hope you see the phonetic differences :mmmh:

Thank you Rayera!

Just after I read your post, my eleven year old daughter gave me a perfect opportunity to say "Persevera y triunfarà¡s".
