It is funny how you encounter someone who call themselves Native Californian then find that they first moved to California only a year or two before.  I wonder if it is like that elsewhere too.

In Hawaii, you have to have lived there at least seven years to properly call yourself a Kama'ena (local).  The military was "granted" local status during their stay and the rest were temporary locals (tourists) :lol:

I know the feeling. Where i live, on the Gold Coast near Surfers Paradise, almost everyone has moved there from somewhere else. When you meet a local who was born here it's a surprise. I've been here twenty-something years now and have only worked with three people that I can name who were born locally  :mmmh:

Mind you I think over twenty years qualifies me as a local  :wink:
