I like the BW look, adds to the murky feel of heavy clouds, and also enhances shadows.

Using my mechanical manual cameras (some are real clunkers), I don't fear some rain, but knowing you are digital hope it stays dry, and condensation free.

No problems, yet. I've used it while raining more than once. This camera hit the 30,000th shot last month and turned out to be pretty reliable. It has to be tough. I don't handle it like a sacred item, but as a tool, and outdoors most of the time. The only thing it really hates are low temperatures, same as with mobile phones, they simply de-charge fast. So on a polar expedition a mechanical would be first choice, I think...

You're fine, you carry your spare battery under your armpit or similar.

With my digital point and shoot, I always have a spare battery, and keep it warm in cold weather.

The camera you keep warm before you set out, then get it out the bag when you use it.

The rain was warm, too. As I'm barefoot all the time (only own one pair of shoes for winter ), I enjoyed puddle hopping a lot
