| Pic Description: |
For centuries, the Great Brackwater Swamp has held a dismal reputation as a place of doom. Forlorn people enter the fogs of the swamps, often alone, and are never seen again. Common gossip attibutes the missing people to accidents and suicides, presuming the victims are swallowed up by the muck and quicksand of the moors, which is why no bodies are ever found. In truth, the swamp has long been home to a colony of ghouls-- a race of supernatural humanoids, whose favored diet is the flesh of other dead humanoids. The dietary habits of these necrophagic monsters is why no corpses are ever retrieved from the swamplands.
On this particular day, however, the appetite of the ghouls quickly soured after coming across the rotting corpse of a woman who had, several days before, gone to the notorious swamplands to end her own life. The woman had been a member of an esoteric order dedicated to a strange diety, as indicated by a large tattoo on her back, the sign of her cult.
Ghoul 1 (middle): ''Mmmm, thigh meat!''
Ghoul 2 (right side): ''Stop, you fool! This corpse bears the sign of Azathoth, the blind dreamer! She probably died in some foul ritual! We must not bring ourselves to the dire attention of the dread chaos sultan by meddling with its chosen ones!''
Ghoul 3 (left side): ''Nooooooo! We must flee this place of desecration at once!''
Ghoul 1: ''But, but... thigh meat!''
2 P4NW and 2 P4NM, rendered in Poser 4, with a little postwork on color and brightness to coax out a fog-cloud effect. Long Hair Evolution by Kozaburo, foreground landscape model by mapps, log by brotherofmysister, paper bag by rjcain. The background photo of a foggy field was a random internet grab, and the rest of the props (all ancient freebies) either cannot be properly identified anymore for attribution, or were made by myself.
No Poser characters were harmed in the composition of this image :). There were other camera angles on this scene that were more dramatic and interesting, but they all included full frontal nudity of the dead woman. As well, the source material on Pickman ghouls is clear on the point they have no concept of clothing. As I intended to share the image here for Halloween, and didn''t want any confusion that this is intended to be a horror image rather than an eroticised image, in the interests of good taste (no ghoulish pun intended) I went with what we see here instead for the final output.
For those interested in the lore informing this picture, its details are drawn from fiction I write for fun, set in a gothic/steampunk Lovecraftian universe. As for the general idea of the rest, check these reads:
