Post Addeing memory in Poser 5

#1  tda42 10 Nov 2007 02:18

Does any one know how to increase the memory allocated in Poser? I have had the PC run out of memory and in is saying to try and allocate the memory to Poser. Any one know how to do this? I have 2 gigs of memory and shouldn't be a problem. I have Poser 5.

If you haven't done it already you might try upping the size of your page file to about 3.5Gb in size.

Possibly dropping your screen resolution temporarily may also give you a little RAM back.

A final thought would be to put all objects you are not working on into box tracking mode. Poser uses more memory when displaying the workspace in detail...

Hope this helps a little.

No problem.  Under SYSTEM PROPERTIES (hit the WINDOWS key and the PAUSE|BREAK key at the same time) you'll find a tab called ADVANCED.  Hit the settings button next to PERFORMANCE, where you'll find another tab called ADVANCED. Hit that, hit the CHANGE button for Virtual Memory, click the Custom radio button, then enter 3500 for Inital Size.  You can leave Max Size empty if you want, or give it the same 3500 number.  Hit the SET button, the OK button, and that's all she wrote.  You will have to reboot for it to take effect.

NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY work-around - it may help getting Poser to do what it wants to do, but may not be a good thing for overall system speed.  Change it back once (if) it works out.

Hope this helps.

Yes Kenny, my idea would have been to increase the swap file, too.
Go Start->Settings->ControlPanel->System-Advanced
I never used P5, but I heard of some memory issues with it.
Did you install all SRs?. I think the last one was SR4.1...

Yes I got the 4 Andreas. It was the release of the software so you wouldn't have to be online to activate the Poser software to work.   I am wanting to make an animation with this group adding one more character to sing.

3 Apollo's to be exact. One on Guitar the others on Bass and Drums. A Michael 3 on Keyboards and Dork and Posette on Back ground vocals. The main singer will be the one animated with a vocal voice track for a 5 minute Music video. (Kenny hears his PC screaming.)

Are you doing mutiple camera angles, or all from a view like this?  Because you could render, say, the left half characters only, followed by the right half, then composite the two into one final image...

(yes, I know, depending on shadow locations and reflections it may be more fiddly than it's worth... but it's worth a thought. Depending on the fps speed, it would be a LOT of images to deal with, though.)

Groucho "Spielberg? Who?" Caesar.

Pretty much this camera angle with a zoom in and pan a time or two. I have seen Poser do animation before with a band like that but maybe there was something they did that I didn't see. Like slamming real heavy textures and going over board with the lights but hey thats me. That is a good idea though and worth a look at. The hair in all of them is enough to melt a processor down in two seconds. I have set my virtual memory to 6400.   Still having memory problems. May change the actors though I really hate to. I just used the Poser file for just shadowing and it worked that way. But runs out with textures fully loaded. So it would seem something to do with heavy texturing.

Thanks Davide and everyone as well.   I have one question though. Is there any way that you can add memory from outside of the PC. Something like a box that is a secondary memory or extension to the PC to have more memory?
