Hi everyone!

Haven't been around in sometime. Never seems like I have as much time as I would like, but sure you all know how that is.

Anyway, I have been continuing to hone my modeling skills and undertook a rather big jump in modeling software. Here is a freebie for you to play with. Please don't post the link elsewhere, as I will do that when I am ready (trying to control bandwidth usage).

The Mobile Close in Weapons System (CIWS)

This model was created based on a tutorial by Andy Brown, with many personal enhancements.

Please at least read the following before you download as this may prevent a lot of grief.

This is a very high resolution model of almost 2.1 million polygons. There are several n-gons that would have required a lot of extra mesh to fix. The original tutorial based model was NOT  intended for export to obj format, as the tutorial was a demonstration of many different modeling methods. Before mesh reduction, my version of this model was over 5 million polys. My purpose in trying to obtain a Poser useable model was twofold. First, to see if it could be done, and second, to test the limits of Poser itself. As such, the model is optimized for Poser, but has been tested in Poser 6/7, Daz Studio, bryce, and Vue.

The included read me file has additional information that will assist in using the model, as well as some technical observations about how I got this to work. This model is resource intensive and may or may not load or render in Poser on all machines. Generally, it will load and render without the use of shadows, but the addition of too many additional figures will eventually prevent rendering.  I highly recommend using OpenGL in preview mode if your hardware supports. If all the textures are deleted to allow the use of material settings, the Sreed software option will shoot the n-gon vertices off into space. Additionally, prop set up is a bit quicker in OpenGL.

The model is Poser ready with smart props already set up. Three texture sets are included. Oh, this link is to my download page at Lord of the Labs. To prevent leaving PF, you may want to right click and open in new tab or window.

Enjoy!

Whew! Firepower Maximus!!

Looks good; I hope I can get it to load and render in my P5.

Thanks much for sharing this!!!

Phew !!

Looks like rate of fire would match the polygon count...

That is truly a labour of love !!

You don't hear that sentiment very often.
