Sad news, the baby Opossum died just a little while ago. I don't know why for sure, other than he was just so tiny and I don't think he was totally weaned from his natural mom and just failed to thrive. He was eating somewhat for me, esp if I gave him his food on a small measuring spoon, and last night I saw him drinking his water which I had never seen him do before. He was actually full of piss and vinager last night, wanted on the floor and once there he was crusing all over our kitchen floor until I had to pick him up because I was afraid he was going to get behind the stove or fridge where I couldn't get him out. Today though he just seemed lifeless when I went to get him out and check his food and water, wasn't long before he was gone. I didn't know what to feed him and got no help from the vet or pet stores I called so I was making do with baby foods, juices and some canned cat food. I guess that wasn't a substitue for his mom's milk :(
Well the kids want to bury him in the yard so tomorrow I guess we hold a funeral for him.
At least I have some pictures of him for memories and I'll stick to my bird and dog from now on to be mommy to.

I agree with Tormentor...that is a wild animal, and likely died...because it was seprated from
it`s mum too.
the mum may have been killed by a car...we get lots of possum road kill...deer, and coons too.

It is possible that he was too young, or there is another possibility. Most animal who are born in litters are like fraternal twins with humans. However, with these critters, they are even closer to each other than identical twins. Their litters are more like a litter of clones rather than of twins, tripplets or whatever. So there is an off chance that the little one's siblings met a tragic end at that time and he was like a twin who share the fate of a distant twin.
