It was not so big in Australia when I was a kid, but with the increase in US culture throughout our media it has become quite a celebration... lots of lollies for the kids and fancy dress parties for the grown-ups.

But it had no special meaning to most of us down under, just an excuse to let our hair down for a night!

Here we celebrate All Hallows Eve and not halloween. We go to cemitaries and put candles on the graves of people we know who have passed away, we remember them and honer them. Often there's also a 15 min long mass in the evening at the cemitary. It looks really beautiful with all the candles on the graves at night.

If you click on the link, u can see what the cemitaries looks like with all the candles in the evening.

Thanks Thilda.

I did realize that the ancient name of the day is still in use. ;-)

Wow, Thilda, that is so cool. It's nice to see that some people have a traditional reason and celebration for Helloween... and it's not just about commercialism :)
