Post Main page slowness...

#1  Tormie 09 Jul 2008 03:38

Hi friends

After some investigations I found that some of the slowness of the front page is due to the calendar block: The registered users are increasing, so the server every time had to write data for each user having a birthday in the cache and it takes time. I have disabled the block, but the calendar with the birthdays is still available on the left panel menu and the next birthdays are visible at the bottom of the main forum page (where the list of the forum is).

I can't valuate exactly if the front page now is quicker or not now because I'm too far from the site, I'll wait for some impressions from people living near the server (Kenny, leahman etc.)

My ISP's running a bit slow, so I would not like to comment on that aspect...

Um, if I pinged Posetteforever, would that cause your defence system to bite me ??

Hi Davide
The mainpage seems to load a bit faster now but there seems to be another "brake". The previews of the album on the front page seem to hang a bit, too...

I'm sorry Nik, you were here while I was starting the job... I had to close all for some hours while moving the database on another server. I hope that now it's better... I will also re-enabled the front page calendar and see if it has the same problem now...

Um, if my ISP changes my cable-modem's 'dynamic address' while this Browser_PC is shut down, would that cause my PF cookie to fail at next log-in  ??

D'uh, I'm beginning to understand some of the issues after getting my router and pair of NAS drives working in DHCP environment...

No Nik, I'm having problems with the sessions table of the database and I'm trying to fix the error: the site locked down and I had to empty the table manually, so everyone have to log in again. I'm sorry about it, It should have been fixed but I'll know for sure only tomorrow when the table will be full again...
