Post Re: Free Daz Zygote Centaur

I don't recall ever making an image using a centaur, but looking through the archives I see I nonetheless have two of them from the old Poser 4 freebie era. For the sake of nostalgia/history, I made a quick render of each. I doubt very much you could still obtain them anywhere, though I'll give the info anyway; maybe those interested could get lucky on the Internet Wayback Machine. Neither figure meets Posette Forever criteria for uploading to the files section, or I'd just share them here-- or, a person with Poser 4 could rather simply make them on their own, as they aren't custom figures in any way.

 Image

On the left, example A is a male centaur by PD Blake, who according to his readme had once upon a time a website at www.poserstore.com . Apparently ole PD just took a P4NM and stuck it on the P4 Horse. Whether by design or as an embarrasing oversight, the poor chap seems to be a mare from the waist down   . If you could find the model anywhere (doubtful), it wouldn't look quite like my example image, as the maker forgot to include any textures at all for the model, so I had to provide all those myself for the render.

In the middle, example B is a female of the species by Nerd, whose ancient (but thriving at the time) website as I recall was nerdworks.com . Like her stallion counterpart, she seems to simply be a Posette stuck on a P4 Horse. For the render shown here, I provided my own texture for the old P4 Long Curls (that hair came with the model, but without a texture) as well as a bump map for the horse part of the body.

From the images you've been posting here you seem also to be interested in faerie-folk. The only thing I have in the archives along those lines is the old Robyn Ravenhair figure by Thorne (example C), who had a bit of fleeting fame 25 years ago at Renderosity. Though she hasn't any wings, I guess she's supposed to be some sort of fairy lass. I find her creepy (I like my Posettes to be grown women, rather than so, eh, 'youthful' looking   ) and have never used her as a model, but as I recall she was quite popular with other Poser 4 artists at one time. Once upon a time, Thorne had a website at Thorneworks.com .

Awesome artwork, I would love it if I had them too since I don't have them.        :

Especially the Robyn Ravenhair figure, I never heard Thorne had made a morphs for Posette Before, I heard Thorne had made Morphs for Aiko 3, Victoria 4, Genesis 3 and 8 female figures.

I really hope to have Zygote's Nude Young Woman (NYW) and Zygote's Nude Muscle Man for an early Christmas gift someday! It would be such a lovely surprise!

As I recall, Thorne was always big over at Renderosity in the late 1990s. That was when everything there was free and fun, before it became a flea market of peddlers hawking their shiny trinkets, and before 'how to make better art' came to mean 'pay $$ to upgrade to the newest commercial product released.' Thorne made all kinds of cutesy free stuff in those days, faeries with frilly dresses and whatnot, all good quality items. I think he was especially known at that time for hair-dos, as well as some long and pointy ear morphs that many people incorporated onto their fantasy-style Poser 4 characters of those days; the same ears are on that Robyn Ravenhair figure.

Good point, I never knew Thorne was always big over Renderosity and freebies there, I wasn't born in 1999, I was born in 2003, I saw Thorne freebies and nothing all gone.    Thank for the question. Speaking of "youthful-looking", who is Zygote/Daz NYW? Nude young woman? This is a same mesh as Faerie?. Tell me about the Zygote NYW along with Nude Muscle Man since I don't have them too , I would love to have them.

I never had either of those figures. They were both commercial models (pay to play), and I never felt any need for them, as magnets and freebie morphs and have always accomplished everything I want to do with Posette and Dork.

Basically, I think NYW was self-explanatory, but I'm sure that if you go back through the image albums here, you can find a few examples where people used her. I think Tormie's backup model (when Posy was tired) was a NYW, but I don't remember what he called her.

As for the Muscle Man, I don't remember ever even seeing it, though I'm sure I probably have at some point. There was no shortage of free bodybuilder/muscly morphs for Dork in his heyday, at least half a dozen different morph sets.

Just in general, morphs that make Dork's body parts thicker aren't helpful, as his geometry is already challenged enough in even simple poses. Thus morphs which make him look more 'ripped' without actually increasing his bulk are the best approach to increasing Dork's simulated physical fitness. Let's be honest-- the default Dork, right out of the box, is a rather strapping and imposing fellow, he doesn't need to gain any more weight.

If that Muscle Man figure can't be found anywhere, we should note that the standard P4NM (Dork) can be made into some pretty good fitness or body-builder type characters. I made a few examples:

 Image

In the top row, the first figure on the left is the standard P4NM. In the middle is his default Superhero body morph (the morph is part of Dork) set to 1.25. On the right is an example of the P4NM I typically use when I have a need for a fit fellow. I made him from blending various old freebie morphs that were available in the P4 era. The sample image isn't very big, but for example if you look closely, the area around the neck and shoulders is shaped more naturally when compared to the default P4 Superhero morphs.

The P4NM fitness morphs of someone called Richard Kane were very popular in the P4 era. At one point Kane made a free Dork called 'Physique Man,' which I've shown on the bottom row at left. Kane's morphwork on P4NM had several variations, and these were often used in the comic-hero figures that once upon a time were widely available as freebies in Poser 4 days. As examples, both Spiderman (bottom middle) and Wolverine (bottom right) are credited with physiques by Kane, and we can see that their general muscularity is different from one another, as well as different from Kane's own dedicated Physique Man.

I have no idea where that figure could be found today, but it would probably be easier to find (maybe on the Wayback Machine) than the commercial Zygote Muscle Man you mentioned. Alternately, if you have any of the old superhero figures (in addition to those pictured, I see P4 Thor and P4 Vision also used Kane's physiques, as well as many others), you could always use MorphManager to move them onto a regular Dork.

Post Re: Free Daz Zygote Centaur

Back in Poser 4 days, RemC also made some good fitness/muscularity morphs for P4NM Dork, mostly used for his many superhero and sci-fi characters. From a technical perspective the morphs are quite interesting, because they are pure mesh manipulations, not involving any scaling of body parts (which is the more usual case when pumping up our venerable Dork). Shown here are two different morph approaches to Dork muscularity made by RemC, respectively called Athletic Man (left) and MegaMassive (middle). As I write this in 2025, both free characters are still available (with use of the Wayback Machine) from his old website rem.c.free.fr .

 Image

I'll add that the MegaMassive figure is an an excellent morph set, particularly if the default settings on the morphs (shown here) are dialed down to less superhuman proportions. I highly recommend that anyone interested in beefy P4NMs took a close look at this one, as it's a first-rate and perhaps more realistic contrast to the methodology used in the various Richard Kane P4NM morph sets discussed earlier. I think the best analogy is that RemC made a big-boned power-lifter character, while Kane's morphs are more suited to finesse bodybuiler characters. At the end of the day, however, both authors made fine characters and morph sets suitable for any sort of superheroic P4NM characters.

As a comparison to all these P4NM examples, on the right I've depicted a subsequent generation figure (also a free character and also still available), Apollo Maximus by Anton Kisiel. Apollo is a versatile character able to assume many different body shapes, but here I've set him with some of his built-in physical fitness morphs. His upper body looks great in terms of physique, but unfortunately this is about as good as could be done on his legs, which don't have a very realistic shape as a body-builder type of fellow.

I think we can see from these examples that in matters of buffness and muscularity, with the right morphs the standard P4NM does a fine job. From a few sample images I've seen, the many Dork muscle morph variants are equal to or better than the old commercial figure Nude Muscle Man from Zygote. In addition, there are countless other morphs available for P4NM, while as a unique mesh the Zygote figure would not have much if anything premade on that count, and therefore wouldn't be very versatile.
